Our white winter has finally arrived in Portland! There is something so nostalgic and magical about a white Christmas, which came a couple weeks late. But hey- better late than never! It was quite a treat to wake up to snow fall and play in the few inches that managed to blanket the city and stick.
This year the holidays were bittersweet. Divorce is difficult and I am two years in… While this Christmas was beautiful and full of laughter, (I am so lucky to have some incredible friends and family nearby) I found myself aching to be with Ella for the first half of Christmas break. This year she was with her dad for the first portion.
Jose was supportive and kept the house cheery with lots of meals simmering in the kitchen, Christmas music and good company. It was comforting to have Ariela, his sweet daughter in town to fill the house with a bit more warmth. Our home was also filled with so many family and friends. I’m lucky to have a talented cook for a boyfriend and shamelessly invite friends over to taste his cooking! But if you have kids and are reading this, you know that it’s not quite Christmas without your little ones at home.
When Ella finally joined us, Christmas day, it literally crushed my heart with joy to hold, smell and touch my sweet girl. A firm reminder that the holidays are truly all about our loved ones.
It wasn’t an extravagant Christmas, yet I feel showered and bursting full with love, joy and peace after two weeks off of work with family. I’m feeling grateful for this little life we have built here in the NW. My heart is heavy at times, yet I am aware of the great blessings that fill my cup. When my daughter can’t be near, it’s comforting to know that she adores her dad and he her. I know she is happy and safe and cared for, so my heart can rest in that.
Side note- Jose took some pictures with his phone while we were outside, but it was snowing sideways and Ella had to go back inside 3 times because she was so cold! So we took the pictured selfie inside once we were all warmed up.
