Probably like most kids, my daughter has a fascination with all things tiny. She insists that “tiny” and “fluffy” are her two favorite words, with the latter being a not-so-subtle nod to her favorite treat- Cotton Candy. Anyhow, when I stumbled across the Portland Tiny House Instagram page I knew we’d struck Best Mom of the Year Gold.
Since first-impressions are everything, I have to mention the yard outside of the Portland Tiny House, which includes a darling vegetable garden and a chicken coup. Yes, I said Chicken Coup. What better way to begin our visit than to receive a fresh egg from one of the hens, whom Ella curiously named “Bob”.
The hosts were very kind and kind, greeteing us the first evening we arrived with permission to take an egg and walk through the garden a bit. As you can see, Ella took the liberty to test the strength of their tree as well.
Inside the house itself is a perfectly curated studio space with high ceilings and a private bathroom. Everything is definitely tiny, but arranged so well that you don’t feel cramped or want for space. We had an evening off and watched our favorite TV show from the comfort of the queen size bed and played music on their blue-tooth speaker when having dinner.
Our second night here, we walked a few blocks to get icecream and passed by several lively bars, restaurants and cafes right on Alberta. This district is quite trendy and if we hadn’t had a car it would have been easy to enjoy Portland on foot.
Overall, I definitely recommend this spot as an essential Portland experience. It’s a great alternative to a normal hotel and quite affordable! Don’t forget to book your stay on AirBNB with plenty of notice however, because prime times book up fast.
