If you’re trying to delve into the world of grunge or rocker-chic, but need a little guidance, you’ve come to the right place. This is one of my favorite styles, because it adds added interest to staple pieces you likely already have in your closet.
STEP 1: Start with a dark colored staple like a black sweater or hunter green dress (patterns are fine too) as the foundation of your look. Jeans are great, but I strongly recommend that they be distressed or destroyed.
STEP 2: Layer with boxy cuts. For my look, you can see that I have a babydoll, black lace dress as my first layer. So, for my second layer, I decided to add denim. This jacket is a boxy, cropped style which adds a 90’s grunge element when paired with the black lace.
STEP 3: Choose combat boots. This is a MUST for almost all grunge or rocker looks, especially if you’re wearing a dress. EXCEPTION: If you were wearing jeans and a faded band tee, you could definitely get away with adding heels as your chic element.
You can see that I continued to style my look with some playful accessories, like this evening bag as a belt and a vintage bucket hat. These elements are not necessary, but kind of tied it all together for me. What do you think of the rocker-chic trend and my take on it?
