Portland’s art scene never ceases to amaze me. So many hands went into the production for last nights Rapid Jewelry show featuring 3D-printed jewelry. First off, you had the team from Design Museum Portland, the crew over at Hotel Lucia, the dancers from BodyVox and then host Comedian Joann Schinderle with live music by DJ Matthew McFerrin.
What culminated from such a collaboration was an interesting show that felt more like a performance art piece than a fashion show or installation. The performers were elegant and strong dancers, but moved so quickly through their motions that I could not properly capture many of the pieces being showcased. While I left having a better appreciation for body-vox and the powerful core strength, sense of space and performances of those dancers, unfortunely I did not see as much jewelry as one would have expected from a Fashion Show.
The pieces that I did see at length were incredible- my favorite being the white necklace that whips around the neck with an elegant drape down the back.
The hosts were wonderful and gave us a short background on the making of such pieces so I left quite satisfied to having gained some knowledge on the art of 3D design.
Here are more pieces that I captured during the performance. You’ll notice some smaller pieces made of silver and gold. The machines are now capable of printing even with precious metals.
If you’d like to check out these pieces in person- (including the ones I was not able to to capture) Good News! All the pieces will be on display at Hotel Lucia starting tomorrow through June. This is a cool opportunity to go see each piece up close at Hotel Luci’s new digs.
